Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis in the Western Isles (also known as the Outer Hebrides) of Scotland is the regions main town and administrative centre. As such Stornoway is one of the most popular tourist destinations and both bed and breakfast guest house and bed and breakfast in hotels is in great demand. Over the coming months we plan to include many of the most popular guest houses and hotels in Stornoway but, for the time being we have three of the Stornoway hotels listed and a couple of the best Stornoway guest houses offering B&B.

As well as listing accommodation in Stornoway we will also be including other accommodation on the Isle of Lewis and maybe Isle of Harris accommodation. Over the last few decades there has been a dramatic increase in the number of visitors to the Outer Hebrides/Western Isles. The overall interest in the region suggests that this trend is likely to continue with the Internert playing a vital role.

There are a great many reasons why the islands of the Outer Hebrides (Western Isles) are becoming such a popular tourist destination. One of the key reasons is that the Hebridean folk are amongst the most widely traveled in the world. Partly due to the massive numbers of families that chose to move away and in part due to the forced removal of families during the period of time know as the "clearances". This movement of people led to the creation of many settlements in Canada and the U.S.A. and today many people from those regions can trace their ancestry back to the islands.

As well as those visitors to Stornoway and the Isle of Lewis who are in search of their roots many people visit to enjoy the uniqueness of the environment and the culture. Home to some of the finest beaches in Europe and with some of Europe's most important historical sites Stornoway and the Isle of Lewis has much to offer. Sports, such as surfing, hill walking and cycling, have also played a role in the increased tourism and we will be looking at Stornoway and the Isle of Lewis in far more detail.
