Isle of Lewis Guest House
The Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides/Western Isle of Scotland has some of the most interesting and important historical sites in the United Kingdom. One of the most well known sites is Calanais (Callanish) where you will find a group of standing stones which are second in importance to Stone Henge. Rather than a simple stone circle the standing stone of Calanais have an inner circle with four distinct avenues which help create a shape similar to a cross.
Calanais is surrounded by further stone circle (such as those as site 3 pictured left) and more stone circles and monoliths can be found around the Isle of Lewis. Believed to have been built between 3,000 and 4,000 BC the purpose of the stones remains a mystery.
Below you will find a selection of guest house accommodation on the Isle of Lewis and, if you decide to visit the island try to make time to visit the wonderful stones at Calanais.
